Lancaster Board of Health approves bat box conservation project
Board of Health · Meeting of July 30, 2026
Lancaster Board of Health approves bat box conservation project for Luther Burbank Middle School. Eagle Scout candidate Ayden LeMay seeks to install four boxes in town to protect the endangered little brown bat, whose population has declined since 2006 due to White Nose Syndrome. Board members Mackenzie Maloney and Sheila Roach-Mallette supported the motion, with Chair Jeffrey Paster completing a 3-0-0 unanimous vote in favor.
Each box will accommodate 200 to 250 bats, with LeMay planning an educational presentation for middle school students supporting the town's conservation efforts.
