Lancaster Select Board approves dispatch expansion; ambulance replacement looms

Select Board · Meeting of January 8, 2026

Lancaster Select Board faces emergency equipment crisis as ambulance falls into disrepair. With the town's second ambulance out of service due to extensive repairs, the board discussed redirecting planned equipment funds toward replacement, which would require special town meeting approval. The 2014-model ambulance costs over $25,000 to repair; roughly 78 percent of fire department calls are emergency medical services.

In other business, the board unanimously approved Sterling's addition to the Nashoba Valley Regional Dispatch District and declined the town's right of first refusal to purchase Chapter 61A protected land at Brockelman Road.
